“Steady in the Storm Through God’s Presence”

“Steady in the Storm Through God’s Presence”

Dear Friends,

Greetings in the name of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Many years ago, a group of experienced sailors were caught in a violent storm at sea. The waves were fierce, the wind was relentless, and fear began to grip their hearts. Yet, among them was a young boy who remained calm and fearless. When asked why he was not worried, he simply replied, “My father is the captain of this ship.”

His confidence did not come from the absence of the storm, but from the presence of someone he trusted.

This reminds us of the promise in Psalm 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Just as the boy found peace knowing his father was in control, we too can remain steady because God is with us in every situation.

The Psalmist wrote these words during times of uncertainty and fear. The imagery in this Psalm speaks of chaos—mountains shaking and waters roaring—yet in the middle of it all comes a strong assurance: God is our refuge. Not distant, not delayed—but ever-present.

This means that God does not always remove the storm immediately, but He assures us of His presence within it.

In our lives, we all face different kinds of storms. There may be pressures at work, challenges in our families, concerns about health, or moments when we feel overwhelmed. During such times, it is natural to feel anxious. But the Word of God reminds us that our security is not in a trouble-free life, but in God’s unfailing presence.

Like the young boy on the ship, our confidence is not based on circumstances but on who is with us.

When we truly believe that God is our refuge, we find peace even in uncertainty, strength in weakness, and courage to move forward without fear.

As we journey through this month, we also look forward to a special celebration. The 4th Sunday of May will be Pentecost Sunday, a day when we remember the coming of the Holy Spirit—the very presence of God given to us to guide, strengthen, and empower our lives.

I warmly invite you all to come and participate in this service. Let us gather together as a church family to seek God’s presence afresh, to be renewed by His Spirit, and to be strengthened for the days ahead.

May we continue to trust in Him, rest in His presence, and walk forward with confidence, knowing that He is always with us.

May God bless you all.

In Christ’s love,
