“My Lord and My God!”

“My Lord and My God!” – Making Faith Personal

John 20:28 – “Thomas said to Jesus, ‘My Lord and my God!’”

In the days after Easter, we continue to reflect on the power of the resurrection—not just as a historical event, but as a life-changing encounter. One of the most moving responses to the risen Christ comes from Thomas, who, after struggling with doubt, makes a simple yet powerful confession: “My Lord and my God!”

This declaration wasn’t a theological statement; it was a personal surrender. Thomas wasn’t just acknowledging who Jesus was—he was claiming Him as his own Lord, his own God. That’s the heart of genuine Christian faith: not distant belief, but personal trust.

Faith becomes real when we make it personal: Thomas reminds us that it's not enough to know about Jesus—we must know Him personally. We must move from second-hand faith to a direct, living relationship with the risen Christ. It’s easy to attend church, hear the stories, and even serve in ministry without ever truly saying, “Jesus is my Lord and my God.”

A young boy once visited a grand cathedral with his grandfather. As they admired the stained-glass windows, the boy asked, “Grandpa, who are those people in the glass?” “They’re the saints,” the grandfather replied. Later, when asked in Sunday School who the saints were, the boy said, “They’re the people the light shines through.”

Like that window, Thomas’ life became transparent to God’s light only when he made his faith personal. Before that moment, he was present but hesitant. But once he saw Jesus and responded with his heart, his life began to reflect the risen Christ.

This month, ask yourself: Is Jesus truly my Lord and my God? Make time each day to speak personally with Jesus in prayer. Replace borrowed faith with lived faith—read the Bible not just for knowledge, but for encounter. Share your faith with someone, not as a formula, but as your personal story of trust in Christ.

Let your life shine with the light of the risen Jesus. Allow your confession to become your lifestyle. When your faith becomes personal, your testimony becomes powerful. May your heart echo the words of Thomas—not once, but every day: “My Lord and my God!”
