Bible is the basic

Dear Friends

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

For every Christian, reading the Bible or reflecting on Bible verses is one of the traditional ways of enriching our spiritual journey. The memorising and reciting of Bible verses has for long been an important part of our Christian heritage, particularly in Asia.

It was a particularly memorable experience for me when I visited the war-torn regions in Jaffna, Sri Lanka, during my Sabbatical in 2015, to hear the lively stories from different people of how they preserved their Bible verses even in the midst of bombing situations and in the journey of coping with the floods. One Church leader said, “My Bible was damaged and it was taken away by the flood, but nobody was able to take away my Bible verses, which are still fresh in my heart to guide me every day”.

Realistically, we as LTCC families don’t create space for children or adults to memorise the Bible verses, but amazingly we give importance for our Junior Church, in all our worship services, to study or reflect on the Bible. Last year during the Bible Sunday Service we all had the chance to study the Book of Genesis. This year we have the opportunity to read the Book of Exodus. Please, therefore, attend the 4th Sunday Service with your friends and families, to take part in a Quiz and other activities from the Bible.

In your families, you may have a copy of the Bible for every member. We need to remember that many people in the world still do not have a Bible of their own, or in their own mother tongue. In some countries do not even have the freedom to read the Bible. We are fortunate to be able to celebrate Bible Sunday and to understand the greatness of God’s words which we enjoy in our lives.

The Psalmist is always talking in his Psalms about his close relationship with the word of God. For example, he said:

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105.

Your testimonies are wonderful; therefore my soul keeps them…. Psalm 119:129

This month LTCC is creating a space for us to analyse ourselves and our experience with the word of God in our life journey. I pray that each one of you will read, study and strengthen yourself with God’s words!

May the Lord help us to study the Bible together and to glorify His name through sharing God’s wonderful deeds with one another in our daily lives. God bless.

Yours in His Service,

Revd Jessie Anand, Minister - LTCC                 4th October 2019
